THE FRICTION MATCH WAS INVENTED BY JOHN WALKER IN 1826, NOT 1827!
Many encyclopaedias and other respected references wrongly state that it was not until 1827 that John Walker, a pharmacist in Stockton-on-Tees, invented the friction match. Click here for more information.
