This milestone marked the birth of one of the country&#8217;s first industrial companies, continuing the manufacture of matches which began in 1877 when Lavigne &amp; Cia. first started making safety matches. or 1940s.<\/p>\n<p>I met these beauties on a trip to Buenos Aires. It was love at first sight. It corresponds to a series of female artists of the Golden Era.&nbsp; From 1880 to 1930, Argentina became a leading destination for immigrants from Europe, particularly Italy and Spain. Buenos Aires became a multicultural city that ranked itself alongside the major European capitals. During this time, the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Teatro_Col%C3%B3n\">Col\u00f3n Theater<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;became one of the world&#8217;s top opera venues, and the city became the regional capital &nbsp;of&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Radio_in_Argentina\">radio<\/a><\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Television_in_Argentina\">television<\/a><\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Argentine_cinema\">cinema<\/a><\/strong>, and&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Theater_in_Argentina\">theater<\/a> <\/strong>in Argentina.<\/p>\n<p>They are cardboard boxes with wax matches under the <strong>Gloria<\/strong> brand, manufactured by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cgfsa.com.ar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Compa\u00f1\u00eda General de F\u00f3sforos de Sudamerica<\/strong><\/a>. The company was born around 1890 and was the product of the union of the companies Bolondo, Lavigne y C\u00eda (1878) and A. Dellach\u00e1 and Hermano (1882), the latter founded by Cayetano Dellach\u00e1, an immigrant who had directed the match factory that his brother Ambrosio owned in Moncalieri (Turin).<\/p>\n<p>The boxes are complete and with an unbroken 2 1\/4 cent tax stamp, something exceedingly difficult, if not impossible, to find these days, hence I consider it the &#8220;jewel of my collection&#8221;. &nbsp;I am pleased to exhibit this material as it represents a connection between the hobbies that I am enthusiastic about : phillumeny and philately, in particular, <a href=\"https:\/\/phillumeny.com\/johnwalker\/on-line-exhibit-match-tax-stamps\/\"><strong>revenue stamps<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Nine of the boxes indicate the name of the artist, the other five do not. I estimate that the series is from the 30&#8217;s or 40&#8217;s.
