Zdenko Ukmar (Croatia)

Exhibit : Croatian Match Industry

I was born in Osijek on December 11, 1950. I completed my primary and technical secondary education there, followed by studies at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering in Ljubljana. Afterward, I worked in Germany as the manager of an electrical workshop (supervising around 130 technicians).

After eight years, I returned to Osijek and worked for the Univac YU representative office, handling computer installation and repair across Europe and attending seminars in cities such as Vienna, Zurich, and Birmingham. I then moved to the Digital representative office in Ljubljana, where I performed similar work. I retired at the age of 65.

My father’s albums

My father collected matchbox labels while working at the Drava and later the Dolac factory. Back in the 1950s, he was one of the world’s major collectors, and I inherited a collection of 50,000 distinct labels—mostly in sets—arranged in specially made albums (30 albums in total).
